What are a P11d and a P9d?

The P11d form provides information about all benefits and expenses paid out to employees or company directors who earn over £8,500.

Common benefits shown on P11d forms are a company car and health scheme benefit. It is completed by employers, and is used to claim tax relief on the money used to provide these benefits and expenses.

A similar form called a P9d is used for employees whose annual income from your company (including earnings and expenses) is below £8,500.

If you are an employer you can complete your P11d and P9d forms online at the HMRC website. Every tax year you must complete a form for each employee who receives benefits or expenses. It is important to complete the forms completely and accurately, otherwise they may be rejected and you will lose your tax allowance.
